Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM Dealer Near Edenton, NC

The area now known as Edenton was the first permanent European settlement in the state of North Carolina. It was originally established in 1712 as “The Towne on Queen Anne’s Creek”. It changed names twice more before being renamed Edenton upon its official incorporation in 1722. One of the first major historical events that put Edenton on the map occurred in 1774, when a group of women signed a petition boycotting English tea and related products. The Edenton Tea Party, as it came to be known, was led by Penelope Barker. It was the first documented political act led by women in the British-American colonies.
Edenton was one of many cities that suffered economic setbacks during and after the Civil War. Luckily, the town was able to rebound, beginning in 1890, through its involvement in various industries including lumber, cotton mills, and even a peanut-processing plant. Today Edenton is a desirable location for the recently retired, as well as a popular tourist town owing to its rich cultural heritage that has been preserved in many historic sites and buildings over the years.
The heritage that Edenton is famous for can be experienced at many of its historic sites that are conveniently open to the public. Located along the waterfront, you can find the 1886 Roanoke River Lighthouse, the Barker House, and the Edenton Bell Battery site. Some other interesting historic sites include Historic 1767 Chowan County Courthouse, the Cupola House, and the James Iredell House. There are also a variety of unique tours in the area such as a bus tour around Historic Edenton, The Original Edenton Ghost Walk, and the Edenton Bay Cruises. If you are looking for a nice place to grab a bite to eat, you should check out Inner Banks BBQ, Old Colony Smokehouse, or Inner Banks Inn & Restaurant.
