What’s New for the 2020 Jeep Gladiator?
The Jeep Gladiator is an all-new release for 2020. This model is virtually identical to the Wrangler from the front and sides. However, it has a pickup-style open bed in the back. The Gladiator is just as off-road ready and rugged as any member of the Jeep family. But it also answers consumers’ demands (which have been expressed since the 1980s) for a pickup-like truck. The Gladiator comes in four trim levels with hard-top and soft-top designs. The base model rides standard on 17-inch wheels, but you can get wheels sized up to 33 inches on the top trim. An easy-load design and roll-off cover facilitate transportation. If you want to take the Gladiator exploring, a sophisticated four-wheel drive system powers through just about any terrain. No matter what toys you want to bring along, the Gladiator’s “best-in-class” towing capacity of 7,650 pounds and “best-in-class” payload of 1,600 pounds makes towing and transportation safe and easy.
A first glance at the Gladiator’s rugged exterior shows that quite a bit of thought has been put into the details. From Jeep’s classic rounded headlights and seven-slot grille to oversize fenders and a removable windshield, no detail has been overlooked on this year’s Gladiator. Careful design continues on the inside too, where you’ll find an interior finished with high-quality luxury amenities like leather seats, an optional 8.4-inch infotainment screen, contrast stitching, and a variety of color schemes.
Each of the four trim levels of the 2020 Gladiator gives you something to look forward to. The standard trim, called the Sport, offers heavy-duty axles, a removable soft top, a three-piece hardtop, and a fold-down windshield. The Sport S adds aluminum wheels and a seven-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and smartphone compatibility. The Overland has more standard safety features, including forward collision warning with automatic braking and adaptive cruise control. It also has larger wheels, LED lights, and a refined leather interior. The Rubicon is ready to hit the trails with a disconnecting front sway bar, wide track axles supported by locking differentials, standard 33-inch tires that provide an 11.1-inch ground clearance, and durable all-season tires. With any trim level, you can also add on amenities such as navigation, premium interior materials, bucket seats, unique paint colors, and storage solutions.
If you’re wondering how the Gladiator gets its impressive towing and payload capacity, the answer lies in its engine. The 2020 Gladiator is currently offered with a gasoline engine. A diesel engine is planned for the following model year. The gasoline engine is a 3.6L six-cylinder engine that generates up to 285 HP and 260 LB-FT of torque. The diesel engine is a 3.0L six-cylinder that will produce more HP and up to 442 LB-FT of torque. As with the Wrangler, you’ll find two choices of transmission on the Gladiator. One is a (standard) six-speed manual. The other, which is optional, is an eight-speed automatic.
